Halal Baby Food

As you may or may not know, my family and I eat halal meat and this is pretty important to us. Whilst weaning my children, I have found that most of the prepared baby foods out there contain meat which isn't halal. After wandering the baby aisles of my local Asda, I discovered the For Aisha meals which contain ethically sourced halal meat. They have a wide range meals which include five different meals for 7m+ and three different meals for 10m+.

The first meal we tried from the range was Shepherd's Pie and it was an instant hit. My son loved it and kept indicating to me that he wanted more. My daughter liked it as well but she preferred the chicken and sweet potato meal, as she has a bit more of a sweet tooth. I like the fact that there is a mixture of difference cuisines available in the range from British classics to Asian dishes. Each of the meals we have tried, have been quickly devoured and enjoyed. We have tried all of the meals from both stages and the main difference I have found between the 7m+ and 10m+ pouches, are the that the 10m+ pouches contain small chunks of soft cooked vegetables, whereas the 7m+ pouches are more of a thick puree.

For me, these meals perfect for when I'm pressed for time or when we are out and there isn't something suitable for them to eat. I tend to find that when eating out most dishes include a lot of salt and/or spice which isn't ideal. I highly recommend trying out some of the meals from the range. In my opinion, there's something to suit every baby (there's even a veggie option) and it's a great way for babies to explore new tastes and flavours. The full range of 7m+ pouches are available from Asda, Tesco, Morrisons, Whole Foods and Boots and the range of 10m+ pouches are available from Asda. You can find your nearest stockist here.

MyCarbon Electric Manicure & Pedicure Set

No one likes rough, hard feet but despite using tons of lotions my feet are still left feeling rough especially as the seasons change. One thing which I have found recently to help with this is the MYCARBON Rechargeable Electric Manicure & Pedicure Set* (£16.95). The electric file comes with two replacement heads to remove dry skin along with five manicure drills which are a buffing tool, cuticle pusher, shaping tool, small cuticle pusher & a fine shaping tool which can be stored in a handy silver pouch. The device can be charged fairly quickly via usb cable which means no constant replacement of batteries. I've used various foot files and it always ends up feeling like I'm using a cheese grater on my feet but with this one, it's totally different. I normally use this after getting out of the shower or bath and I've really noticed a difference with how softer my feet have become. I am yet to try out the nail attachments but next time I want to give myself a manicure I can see me reaching for the set.

Tips For Breastfeeding Twins

Some people think breastfeeding twins is impossible when it couldn't be further from the truth. Once you get the hang of it, breastfeeding twins can be totally doable and a breeze. Here are some of my tips for breastfeeding twins.

→ Invest in a good feeding pillow. Feeding twins can be tricky in the early days. Having a good feeding pillow (I used the Harmony Duo Twin Feeding Pillow) and lots of cushions/pillow can really help you to feed them both simultaneously. You'll need someone to hand you the babies the first few times but after that, it becomes easier and you can do it by yourself. I used this video as a good guide for how to do it by myself.

→ Following on from the previous tip, feed both them together if you can. When you get breastfeeding established try to feed them together otherwise, you'll constantly have one baby on the boob and the other one sleeping.

→ If your babies are born prematurely you may wish to pump in order to ensure they get a good supply of milk until they can latch on correctly and efficiently. I found the Medela Symphony Double Breastpump was the quickest at extracting breastmilk, although the Spectra 3 performed just as well but took longer. If you're going to be pumping a lot, make sure you're double pumping and perhaps invest in a bra to hold the suction cups in place, as you'll have to spend a lot of time holding the suction cups.

→ Download an app such as Glow Baby to keep track of which baby fed on which boob and for how long. You can also monitor dirty nappies, bottles and sleep within the app too which is a lifesaver in those early days of twin motherhood.

→ Breastfeeding can be tough in the first few weeks especially if it's your first time and/or you're breastfeeding twins. There's lots of support available from health visitors, children centres and groups online so don't be afraid to ask for help. Keep at it if you can as it'll pay off in the long run and get easier.

And Then She Said has also written a post about her Ten Breastfeeding Essentials with lots of great tips and advice for breastfeeding in general which I highly recommend checking out.

5 FAQ I Get Asked As A Twin Mother

Everyone loves twins, right? They're a real curiosity. There's a few questions that I always get asked as a twin mum, so I thought I'd share the answers with you.

Their Gender
What are they? Two girls? Two boys? Actually, they're a girl and a boy. That's my daughter (points to the baby dressed in pink) and that's my son (points to the baby dressed in boy). Yes I am one of those parents who play into colour stereotypes for their children.

Are They Your First?
Yes they are my first. They were my first pregnancy and subsequently my first children. I went from a mother of zero to a mother of two in just under five minutes.

Are They Identical?
Even after finding out that they are different genders, people still ask this question. No they are not identical and it's extremely rare that they would be identical. My daughter and son look completely different to each other in terms of skin colour, hair colour, eye colour, birthmarks, ect.

Are You Going To Have Any More Kids?
Whoa hang on, I only gave birth five minutes ago. I haven't even thought of what I'm going to have for dinner tonight, let alone plans for future children.

Did You Have IVF?
No I didn't have IVF. Who knows the reason why I have twins, it could be PCOS, genetics, medication or my weight? The possibilities are endless.

Mamas, what questions are you constantly asked as a parent?

AA Skincare Amla & Clary Sage Rejuvenating Shampoo

AA Skincare Amla & Clary Sage Rejuvenating Shampoo

A balancing and moisturising shampoo with vitamin c rich Amla (Indian Gooseberry) to strengthen roots. Naturally soothes and protects against scalp irritations, leaving hair shiny and roots strong. Also, has anti-fungal and anti-inflammatory properties to soothe and protect against scalp irritations.

I've mentioned this before but the harsh, hard London water just doesn't agree with my scalp. I find my scalp is constantly irritated no matter what I do or use. Shampoos which promise to help the problem simply don't or just make my hair look like a greaseball. Since using AA Skincare Amla & Clary Sage Rejuvenating Shampoo* (£5.94) my scalp has become less irritated and even a bit stronger (double win). It has a nice lather to it (something which I love) and doesn't leave my hair feeling dry or oily. I do however find if I've used styling products on my hair, it does mean I need to do a double wash when using this shampoo. Overall for me it's a great daily use shampoo which keeps irritation at bay.

Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream Miracle Oil

Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream Miracle Oil

Another addition to the Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour family is the Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream All Over Miracle Oil 100ml* (£29.00). The oil provides head-to-toe conditioning benefits for the body, face and hair and is proven to moisturise for a minimum of eight hours, The uses for the miracle oil are endless from a massage oil to a cuticle softener to a hair oil. I love applying a few spritz of this to my face and my hair seeing as it's a little pricey to use as a body oil in my opinion. If you love the original Eight Hour Cream but want that extra bit of TLC, then this product gives you just that.

Eloquence Skincare Range

Eloquence Skincare Range

Eloquence is one of the UK's newest skincare companies. They use the finest ingredients in their skincare including Sachi Inchi Oil, which is known for its high levels of vitamins, antioxidants and fatty acids. Sacha Inchi Oil is a superfood which comes from the forests of Peru, it's an exotic seed and is an incredibly popular health food supplement and premium beauty skin food. It's combination of ingredients means it can adapt to any skin type, not only parched dry skin but also oily and combination skin. Eloquence have recently released a four step skincare regime consisting of the following products...

Purifying Facial Cleanser 20ml* (£7.99) On first appearances, for a cleanser I think this is a bit too small and wouldn't last that long but you only need a small amount to cover your whole face. To use the facial cleanser you simply dispense a pearl sized amount in your palm and combine with water to create a lather. You can combine it with the Nourishing Treatment Oil which would be great at breaking down and removing foundation and giving the skin some extra nourishment. It does what it claims and doesn't leave my skin feeling tight, however it didn't really wow me.

Firm And Tone Serum 20ml* (£19.99) I don't really tend to use serums, so I found this difficult to incorporate into my skin care routine. Like the other products in the range is comes with a pump dispenser and only a small amount is needed to cover the face. I find this works well underneath foundation to give my skin an luminous glow, although I do need to add a mattifying powder to help keep my t-zone shine free.

Moisturising Eye Gel 15ml* (£19.99) My favourite product of the range is this eye gel. It's super cooling and makes an instant difference to my eyes. The applicator makes it easy to apply to underneath the eyes and the gel instantly fills fine lines, leaving my eyes looking invigorated. I like to apply this just before applying my foundation and concealer in the morning and in the evening after removing my make up.

Protect & Repair 24 Hour Cream 20ml* (£14.99) Another product which I like from the range is this face cream. It contains UVA and UVB which is important for sun protection and hyaluronic acid which helps the skin retain moisture. It's has a moisturising effect without feeling heavy and sinks into my skin beautifully.

Nourishing Treatment Oil 50ml* (£29.99) Oils are perfect for my skin when it's winter and my skin tends to dry out a bit more. This treatment oil contains coconut and almond oil (along with Sacha Inchi oil) to help renew and repair the skin. It can not only be used on the face but also on other areas of skin as well as hair and nails. This is a great multi-purpose product which I like to keep on my bedside table to apply before sleeping.

If you'd like to try any of the range you can get 20% off until the end of January by quoting the code JANUARYEQ on www.eloquencebeautycare.com.
